The cleanest half-year in the history of one of the world's great industrial grids looks like this: from January through June, 61.8 percent of Germany's net public electricity came from renewable sources [1]. There is a practical dividend already landing on bills. Here are the limits, as plain facts: the grid still needs far more storage to smooth the gap between sunny noons and dark evenings, and 58.5 percent of load is not 100 [1]. The trajectory is the story - 55 percent became 58.5 in a single year, and the machines doing the work are the most ordinary ones there are. Somewhere today a German family's roof is quietly out-generating a gas plant's share of their lives, and this half-year, sixty-one point eight percent of a nation ran that way.
