Take the underlying fact as stated and the claim still does not follow.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says Anthony Fauci's diary records a pulmonary infarction - a blockage killing lung tissue - roughly five months after Fauci's January 2021 COVID-19 vaccination, that he was treated privately, and that he told no one [1].

A Benny Johnson video posted Tuesday converts that into 'Dr. Fauci Secretly Had A DEADLY Medical Reaction to COVID Jab, He LIED' [2].

Two words in that title are doing work the underlying material does not support.

The first is reaction.

Reporting of Kennedy's claim notes plainly that the diary entry does not state the infarct was caused by the vaccine. The causal link is an inference, and its entire basis is a five-month interval plus the fact that pulmonary embolism and infarct appear among rare expected adverse events listed by NIH, CDC and FDA [1].

A listed rare adverse event establishes that a thing can happen. An interval of five months establishes that one thing happened after another. Neither establishes that this event was that event.

Five months is a long gap, in which a man in his eighties may have a clot for reasons that have nothing to do with an injection.

The second is deadly.

Anthony Fauci is alive. A pulmonary infarction is a serious condition and can kill. It did not.

There is a separate question here that is fair to ask, and that this newsroom is not answering because it cannot be answered from outside: whether a public official who was the face of a vaccination campaign had a duty to disclose a personal medical event. Reasonable people differ, medical privacy is real, and it is a question about disclosure rather than about causation.

Kennedy attached a second claim: that America under Fauci suffered ten times the COVID deaths per million of African countries that barely locked down and never mandated vaccines [1].

Death rates per million are among the most confounded statistics in the pandemic record. Africa's population is dramatically younger than America's, and COVID mortality rose steeply with age. Death-registration completeness differs by orders of magnitude between the two.

A comparison that controls for neither is not evidence about policy.

We have not seen Kennedy's underlying figures and are not disputing the arithmetic. We are saying the comparison cannot carry the conclusion.
