Saturday night, on Truth Social, the president called off the attack. "I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL." [1]

The post frames the pause as requested from the other side: "We have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to." The wording throughout, including "perimeters," is the post's own. [1]

The terms are named, and the first one is a waterway. "This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran's nuclear threat." One more line carries the coalition: "The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment." [1]

The diplomacy behind it ran through Riyadh. CBS reports Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump on Saturday morning and cautioned him against conducting fresh strikes; one source described the outreach as "all about concern over the targets." [1]

The strait is the part of this that can be graded. When we last measured the closure, in late July, IMF PortWatch data showed transits running at 17 percent of normal, war-risk insurance on a single supertanker passage at roughly $2.5 million, about eight times the pre-crisis rate, and 425 vessels anchored or stopped inside the risk zone [callback]. Those trackers carry a lag of days, not months. "Immediate, Complete, and Total" is a claim they can check.

What the post does not contain matters as much as what it does. There is no timetable beyond "rapidly." There is no mechanism, no venue, no named negotiators. No Iranian government response appears in the CBS report. The cancellation is conditional by its own grammar, "subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL," and a condition can fail. [1]

The pressure track did not pause for the deal talk either. On Sunday, Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control announced sanctions against targets accused of backing the IRGC, among them Mahan Air, which Treasury called "the IRGC's airline of choice for moving weapons, military personnel, and equipment," along with an Iranian tech firm and companies in China, India and Russia accused of supporting the network [2]. A canceled attack is not a canceled confrontation; the financial war ran into the same news cycle as the cancellation post.

For the first time in the war's sixth month, the stated American position is a canceled attack with a named, measurable condition attached. The measuring is the part anyone can do. If the strait opens, the transit counts, the insurance rates and the anchor counts will say so within days. If they do not move, that will be the record too.
