The identical release ran August 5, 2026 in the Manila Times via GlobeNewswire, with a fresh wire dateline inside the text: "Paris, FRANCE, Aug. 04, 2026" [2]. Same words, new date, nineteen months apart.

The research is real and worth describing precisely. GEG Tech, a Paris biotechnology company, and the Center for Translational Vision Research at UC Irvine, led by Professor Krzysztof Palczewski, used mRNA-delivered base editing to repair the Rpe65 gene in rd12 mice, a model of inherited retinal degeneration [1]. Treated mice recovered more than 50 percent of normal electroretinography function, which the release describes as comparable to the best gene therapy approaches in similar animal models; control mice recovered none [1]. The release contains no human trial data, because there is none to contain.

The science deserves its full due before the correction.
